What are dentures?

Dentures are custom-made devices designed to replace missing teeth. They are placed into the oral cavity, receiving support from the tissues within. While traditional dentures can be removed at any time, modern dentures are tightly connected to implants for increased support and function.

Our team will help you decide which option best suits your dental needs and financial goals during your initial consultation. Dr. Walters uses advanced analytical technology to assess your face, jaw, musculature, and bones to determine which denture option you are a good candidate for.

What are the benefits of dentures?

There are many benefits to having a denture such as:

Which type of denture is right for me?

Patients who are missing most or all of their teeth will benefit from a “complete” full denture. A modern non-removable version of this style of denture is called a “Fixed Hybrid,” which is connected to dental implants giving it increased support and function. If a patient is only missing a few teeth, a partial denture is usually the ideal solution.

Full dentures

The base of a full denture set includes a plastic or acrylic device that sits on top of the gums and is designed to fit comfortably. The upper set fully covers the roof of the mouth. A thin layer of saliva creates a bond between the dentures and the gums. For this reason, a dry mouth can sometimes cause dentures to come loose. In order to leave enough space for the tongue, the lower set is shaped like a horseshoe and is kept in place by the cheek and the tongue muscles.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures also known as Fixed Hybrids, are devices that are connected directly to implants in the jaw, keeping them snugly positioned. Patients don’t have to worry about their dentures moving around while talking or eating. Implant-supported dentures are comfortable, hassle-free, and lightweight. In addition to their stability and simplicity, implant dentures also support chewing strength, helping to maintain proper bone density.

Partial dentures

A partial denture is a pink-colored plastic plate containing one or more prosthetic teeth. It is usually kept in place by a metal framework that is installed in the mouth. In addition to filling the gaps created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from moving around as well. They have a natural, pleasing look.
